Why did I receive a lab bill I wasn't expecting?

We know getting an unexpected lab bill can be frustrating—and sometimes confusing. Here are some common reasons it might happen:

  • Insurance coverage – Your plan may only cover part of the lab cost, leaving you responsible for the remaining balance.
  • Deductibles or copayments – If you haven’t met your deductible yet, or if a copay applies to lab services, you may see those charges on your bill.
  • Out-of-network labs – If your tests were processed by a lab that’s not in your insurance network, your costs may be higher.

If you get a bill you weren’t expecting, we are here to support you. Please send a message to your Care Team (here) and upload all pages of your invoice, along with your Explanation of Benefits (EOB) if you have it, to your records (here). This will help us get you clear answers and work toward resolving the issue.
